Bermuda

Bermuda is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 570 miles (1,046 km) directly east of the coast of North Carolina.

Bermuda can be accessed by air directly from certain gateway cities including New York, Boston, Baltimore, New Jersey and Philadelphia (all around two hours), Atlanta and Toronto (both around three hours) and London (seven hours).

The island is comprised of a multiple cluster of coral islands, which cover an area of approximately 21 square miles.  There are eight principal islands; St George's Island, St David's Island, Somerset Island, Watford Island, Boaz Island, Bermuda Island, Ireland Island North and Ireland Island South.  The islands are interconnected by a series of causeways and bridges.

The capital of Bermuda is the city of Hamilton, which is also the main port of Bermuda.  It is nowhere near the size of most international cities with a population of less than 5,000 and no buildings over five storeys high.

Hamilton overlooks the harbour and exhibits a grid like street layout spreading out from Front Street, which borders the harbour.  The city is very compact and easily covered on foot.  Very few people actually live in Hamilton with its main focus being a centre for restaurants, bars, shops and most of the international businesses in Bermuda.

Bermuda has a total of 73 different National Parks and Nature Reserves. Dispersed throughout the island, there is a variety of parks, beaches, forts, and many other natural attractions located in each and every parish. One of Bermuda's most notable features is its abundance of beaches and bays, characterised by brilliant blue water and fine, pale pink, coral sand.  A number of the sites do have handicapped access, concessionaires, hiking trails, and camping availability. In some parks there are guided tours, which are provided by the Park Rangers of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Parks. With the abundance of national parks and nature reserve some can easily get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to enjoy a more peaceful time spent surrounded by Bermuda's natural environment.

The other two main centres on the island are the town of St. George's in the east and Somerset Village in the west.
